Kite Big Sur?

Postby sc-surfer » Thu Aug 30, 2012 10:31 am

Camping in Big Sur this weekend to escape the crowds at Front Yards. Have surfed there plenty but never kited there.
Is it worth taking kites? Anyone know of good spots?
We will be pretty far south off Naciamento/Ferguson Road.

Thanks for any info!! Have a safe fun holiday.

If you will be south of Nacimiento - Fergusson grade road you have Piedras Blancas as a good option. I have had fun at Moonstone in Cambria too. Keep an eye on buoy 46028.

Piedras Blancas (actually goes by another name) is a sweet wave spot though spring is the season. Watch for elephant seals that cover the beach, sketchy rocks/underwater reefs, and winds that can pick up to 40 knots in a matter of minutes.

Piedras Blancas, Arroyo Laguna or the place above Hearst Castle, call it what you want, it is beautiful and the water clean. True, you will find big bull males fighting for their harem, generally November thru January the beach will be packed with them.

Life is good Chris, miss the SI parking lot very much. Recent full moon paddle in the backyard keeps the head right.

Looking forward to East Coast wind tomorrow from Isaac, we go to Gilgo Beach for wave action, should be 7M. Heading to Hatteras in two weeks... Have fun in Maui!

Arroyo is a south facing beach and there is a "significant class" south swell hitting the coast this weekend. It will be epic if there is wind. It's blowing there today...but that place is famous for not blowing when it is forecast to go off.
