There is actually a number of different tests for quality of water, one is the the mere presence of E.coli and more significant Cologens (sp?), another, and the one you want is the levels as regards to acceptable levels of both E.coli and Cologens for recreational use, the other test(s) are mainly tests for drinking water. Also as stated there are many types of E.coli and only a very few are harmful.

well, I am not surprised. And I am looking forward to hear more specific results. But I am sure the water IS pretty nasty. The taste of it, the look of it... its pretty bad I guess. Plus it is surrounded by a water treatment plant, but what is worse is the trash/landfill plant or what ever that is. Can you imagine what the runoff of that trash must be like? And where does it go -> A4. You can actually smell it....

Oh well, looking forward to see more results. Love the spot, landed my first legid SB2B in there ;-)

If it is fresh, it could be some of the lagoons from either Santa Clara wastewater or from treatment of water runoff from land fill.

South bay without circulation is NASTY.

I had a skin infection last year and the cause was identified as E.coli. The strand has been identified as a less nasty variety.

I had been kiting at 3rd and sherman in the preceding days. Of course it wouldn't stop me from kiting there again.

I think the best strategy to avoid problems like skin infections is to shower asap after the session and rinse the wet suit thoroughly.

Nasty yeah, but damn it was windy there yesterday.

Sure there's circulation, but Turd's in the shadow of the largest buried dump on the peninsula ("Mt Trashmore"). God only knows what since-been-banned trash buried there in the `50's has been leaching into bay water/silt for decades (I'm more afraid of the dirt than the water). I've gotten sick at 3rd in years/decades past, as I get from time to time in the Columbia (we call it "river nose"), and who knows, the Delta might just have a scary pesticide or two flowing through its tributaries.

That being said, some of us been playing in bay water for ages... Sonny and JR seem to have turned out OK. :)

I never got sick from 3rd in 8 years. I don't worry about bacteria there, though I do worry about heavy metals and such. I would definitively caution people about the water in Sherman. I had a blood infection from a tiny scratch. Ended up in the emergency with pretty strong antibiotics. It was seriously unreal how a tiny scratch could get that infected. Sherman is horrible. Only A4 is maybe even more horrible ;-)

Anyone who thinks A4 has unhealthy water there please post. I need to thin out the place.
