3rd ave wind meter wrong

I was out yesterday evening around 6 pm on my 11 meter at the lower launch and there is no way in hell the wind was just over 20. It was easily 30. Whats going on with the wind meter? I forget if it is less accurate when the wind turns WNW. I think a few people saw me jumping at the lower launch as I was the only one out, but i'm sure they would confirm that I was totally lit. The wind meter was particularly unhelpful since I was trying to pick a kite size for the lady, who ended up bagging it when she was nearly lofted on her 7. Any thoughts on the meter?

yeah I saw you, you looked real powered on your 11. I am typically using the 3rd av sensor only as a rough guideline for the direction of the wind and for me it usually just tells me: wind or no wind, nothing more than that. I find the channel and the coyote sensor more helpful usually. But looking at yesterday evening I think you are right. Non of those meters were showing what you seemed to have experienced at the point. Don't know....

I usually take an average of channel and third sensor. Comes out about right. Unless third sensor is reading below 12. Then it's not worth it even if the channel is cranking.

And as everybody said, I use the beach sensor for wind direction.
Channel sensor to tell me what size to rig. That and what I feel on the corner where the white flag is.

Something would just seem not quite right about 3rd if someone wasn't out there on a 12m no matter what the wind was doing

To clarify I was using the channel sensor at the time I was riding it was reading between 16-19 on the lulls and 20-25 on the high reading. A 16-25 day I would be on an 11m at 190lbs. I have found the low to average wind at the channel to be about what the general riding zone is at. I only use the inside sensor as a judge of direction, it gets more accurate though with more north in it. Anyway, I have absolutely no doubt that the wind was well into the 30s. Just curious if anyone else felt the same.

The jump from 25-30 is significant. That's the range where I will downsize from a 12 to a 10. The gusts @ 6 were from 22-25 in the windiest part of the bay and if it was feeling like 30 at the lower launch area, I think it's a valid question. Hopefully the sensor is not off but it's odd nonetheless.
