We are considering hitting the Gorge around 4th of July. Trying to find out if anyone has any recommendations on places to stay. It looks like the Best Western is right on the water in Hood River, but not sure if they are close to any kiteboard spots.
Thanks in advance....

Re: Hood River Trip
It's all pretty close together. There are a ton of spots within an hour of Hood River proper, not to mention the Event Site area right in town. Check out NWkite for maps and descriptions.

Tucker campground is nice and its out of the wind. 15 min out of town. Hood is small and almost walking distance (you have to cross the highway)

Re: Hood River Trip
You're going to love it up there for the 4th. Great kiting, awesome scenery, great variety of different spots to ride, and among the best 4th of July fireworks I've seen. Went a couple years ago and having been struggling to make it possible to go again, it was awesome.
Best Western is nice and close to everything, walking is fine. We stayed our last two nights there and up until then camped at Tucker for 4 nights. A local who works at SS also recommended the Hood River Hotel as a nice in-town spot. Parking may be a little trickier there.
Be sure to eat at Full Sail after kiting and try the beer platter sampler, very good and generous!

This place has been fun. Rented it a couple of trips up there.
