Jersey, NYC, Long Island end of May…?

Going to be in Somerville NJ at the end of this month. Thinking of staying on a few extra days. Wondering if there's wind then and where to go. I love Long island area. Is it kiteble? Other places nearby that are good? Good cheap places to stay?

Jersey Shore native here. You'll probably want to check into Sandy Hook--that seems to be the major kiteboarding hot spot in that area. If you're on Facebook, there's a group called "Kiteboarding NJ" that has lots of good info and, of course, people you can connect with. Also, here's one of the major kiteboarding businesses at the shore:

Anyone know if there is wind this time of year? Is it frontal only? How predictable is it?

Spring and Fall has the most wind - Summer, not so much (like Alameda in the Summer).

Gilgo Beach in Long Island.....but many more spots to kite too. Best kite center in Amityville, can take jet ski out to the bay to kite.

Join the NYCKitesurfers yahoo group, they have a spreadsheet of the local spots. Don't hold your breath, though; you'll be lucky to get two kiteable days per week.
