I'm not gonna lie, it was impressive. (the only time i rode out of the bay was at half moon bay a month ago and the surf wasn't as big and the wind not as strong)
I got nailed by a 6 feet wave on my first try to get in the water
Body dragged with my board in my hand back to shore, put my board on again and tried again! (yes, I'm stubborn. )
Vincent, right? I started this season too and I've been progressing well, just like you and have the stoke going strong still too.
What made you decide you were ready for Wadell? I went there to watch a week ago and it looks pretty gnarly, but it's just that which makes it so alluring. Were you out on a twintip?

Hi!
yes, I was on a twin tip.
As I said, I had the opportunity to ride at half moon bay earlier this season, so waddell wasn't my first experience with the ocean.
I think if I had not tried half moon bay before waddell, I would have probably turned around saying " F*** this madness!"
But yes, the surf and the swell can get pretty impressive. My heart was definitely pounding as I was putting my board on and looking at what was ahead of me!
But what I like about riding outside of the bay is: every time I come back in the bay I feel like it's so easy! :P

Just make sure you are not alone out there (I usually ride in the ocean with AT LEAST one buddy).
And make sure you have all your safety gears like knife, extra leash for the board in case of a self rescue, good wetsuit, radio, etc...
Also, remember this: if you drop your kite in the surf and your kite is closer to shore than you, have your hand ready to pull the safety: as the wave will drag the kite to shore you'll get pulled under water. So if you fall, try to keep your kite in the sky! And if it falls in the water, just be ready to pull your "oh-shit" system.

Yesterday I went to sherman for the 3rd day within a week!
LOVE this spot! water is warm and flat!
I met both "kirk" and a bunch of other nice people!
I love this community! Even the friends I bring along from time to time and who don't even ride are AMAZED how nice the community is and how we look out for each other.

Excitement of the day: not only I'm not moaning the lawn anymore, but I start getting good at timing!
Did my first jump to pass "over" a wave that was coming at me!

So I'm sure a lot of you guys riding at Waddell are thinking :"what is this guy bragging about? it's not even 6 feet wave".
But hey! it's my first season and I'm super excited to finally get the timing right (I've been jumping bigger but I'm just happy today to make all those jumps from sherman and 3rd ave useful in the waves).
Anyway, just super excited in case you didn't get that yet.

Other than that: how do you keep your gopro from water drops all over the lens and fog?

I always put a 1/2" x 1 1/2" or so strip of paper towel in the Gopro case. No more fog inside. Now I need to remember to put the rain-x on to keep the drops from staying on the lens.

Keep your stoke up and come ride OB with us this winter if you want to talk about madness.... Waddell is a playground (the best playground that is).

Rain-x is at Autozone or Walmart or other automotive stores. It is used for windshields to repel water.
