Manhattan and nearby

So I'm visiting Manhattan for a few days, and am wondering where people go kiting around here. Does anyone know, or know of resources for NYC and nearby? I figure the winds will probably be lighter and perhaps less consistent than what I am used to in the bay area.

There were kiters at Breezy Point when I was there last October. The beaches are too crowded this time of year there though.
