By trainer kite, do you mean a school kite, or did a little Wasp or something take that down? I never inspected it, but it looked pretty solid?

A couple of years ago I was walking up the beach with a Naish X2 16m at high tide and just checking out the sun over the water. I looked up to my right and saw the kite drop over the top of the pole, then the lines started bending. I steered the kite and stalled it and luckily it just dropped down behind the pole. Mind the pole, huh?!

Appearantly the antenna is to control the pumps that supply the lagoons in Central Alameda with fresh Bay water...
