Has anybody Kitesurfed here?

Post by Stefano Moris » Sun Jun 19, 2005 9:44 am

Hello, just driving back from Oakland Airport on Doolittle and wondering if the Estuary is Kiteable, or if anyone has gone there. I have know idea about regulations, depth, water quality, suitable launches or safe "outs". I did see a jet skier launching into this lagoon. The wind seemed to touch down most evenly east of the golf course below the hill, I'm sure the more east you go the better. In any case it caught my attention as it was perfectly flat water with no activity, and quite large. -stef

very shallow
some sticks here and there
years ago some windsurfed here for fear of high wind at the beach at alameda?
i only saw that once.
why kite here if alameda is just up the road ,and closer to the wind?
the wind would have to tumble down to that spot.?
yes the glass looks good .

It has been tried recently in on shore conditions @ Alameda...
It's not a regular launch for a number of reasons not the least of which is the mud and sticks..

Andy has the most recent experience I think and he has not gone back...

Ah, the good old years. Like 2004...sigh.

This year you'd have to be high to fear the wind at Alameda most days, huh?

I rode there... SHHHHHH It is my secret spot... Those hot days when the strong wind comes from the NE.... This is the place to go.... The ONLY place to go... Keep an eye on the Oakland Airport sensor.... I tried this late last year and launched from the park closest to the airport.... Very muddy.. but a grassy rigging area.. I hit the tail end of the winds on my 15m... but earlier in the day it had been blowing 25ish form the NE.... Alameda beach was totally unsailable but this place was on....

How about a good place to ride instead of SI when the north wind is blowing and it gets shut down...

Those hot windy days all I want to do is be in the water.
