Modifying bar & leash

Post by D » Fri Jun 10, 2005 11:11 am

I bought a new slingshot bar and am wondering how to modify the leash. I hear that people often modify their bars. Sometimes after a wipeout the leash gets wrapped around the bar and I have to re-clip it, which is kind of annoying. I'd also like to connect the leash to my harness instead of my wrist. Plus, I'd like to know about any other modifications that improve the slingshot bar.

I know about the slingshot oneline but it is expensive and I don't want the fifth line.

The Slingshot bar is using a backline leash this is probably why you get the leash sometimes (after spinning for example) wrapped . It's a great concept but once you start spinning the leash can be an issue. One solution is a swivel (harness) where the leash attaches to so it swivels also or to further modfiy the harness.

I am using that same bar together with a swivel "Willie-Shackle" where the leash attaches to the spinning shackle. The Willy shackle however is a rare item and is probably unavailable on the market.
You could check out the Slingshot surefire system for your harness (addresses the same issue) or ask in the kiteshops to show what other brands are offering.
Some kite brands are using a center line leash rigging, which I am a bit skeptical about since a few twists in the lines can hinder the depower.
There are plenty of options out there...

cheers! -Sylvia

What does the "willie-shackle" attach to? I can kind of visualize how it might work. Thanks!
