Actually I do plan on spending the night there a few times....

Lets see- if I start renting out the lower unit and pick the pockets of everyone who shows up.. maybe I'll be able to get my hot tub'n costs down to $200 a soak... (Thats providing I get three soaks in one season)

Yup- I'm going to make a small fortune at this rate....
The good news is once I'm totally broke I'll probable get arrested for building on state property or nudity or both...

Kite power!

Hook up a kite via a clutch to a something like a torsion spring (from a garage door, maybe)? Set up the clutch so that it only loads up the spring, but just slips back on the loading line on the return stroke. Then dive the kite a bunch of times to power up the spring, and you have your pump's mechanical power source. Or just run a pump directly from the kite pull (might be kind of hard on the pump).

Put a clear plexiglass cover over the full hot tub during the day to get your heat, and add cold water to bring it down to survivable temperature when you want to use it. Have a separate land-based hot-water storage tank (again with clear cover) so you can feed in more hot water as the tub cools down during the evening.

(yes, I know it ain't that easy. I have a special drop-kick of death I reserve for people who tell me that you "just simply do this" and then expect me to build it)

I agree that keeping it in the servivable temp range might become a challange...

But for the quike' setup I've got a killer little heat exchanger I'm going to use.. lots of gas will be required but it's very fast to set up and break down...
