URGENT: Crown Beach Closure Alert

Crown Beach Closure Alert

Whether you frequent this location or not, your help and support to maintain access is critical. This is the safest location in the Bay Area for beginners to learn kiteboarding. Do you want them to learn elsewhere with higher risks for injury and public interaction?

Stop the Governor's $17.5 Million cut in park services representing a 20% devastating reduction in operating funds - that will force the closing of popular patks, eliminate education programs and reduce vital fire protective services to Alameda and Contra Costa residents.

If you are one of the 750,000 annual visitors to Crown Beach who enjoy hiking and running, kiteboarding and windsurfing, interpretive programs or swimming and pickicking with family and friends along this 2.5 mile beach and hiking trail, please call the Governer and your State Representatives (contact info listed below) and tell them to pass budget that eliminates this devastating and unfair hit to the East Bay Regional Park District.

What You Can Do:

1. Contact Governer Schwarzenegger at 916/445-2841 or governor@governor.ca.gov and say NO to the $17.5 Million hit to the East Bay Regional Parks!

2. Fax the below Sample Letter; add whatever you feel is appropriate.

IMPORTANT - SHOW YOUR SUPPORT BY JULY 1ST!

Your help and support is needed to maintain access at this location.

Dear East Bay Legislator:

I am a resident of ______ and am writing to express my deep concern in the proposed state budget formula, which shifts property taxes from local entities to the state. The formula disproportionately affects multi-county special district agencies, particularly the East Bay Regional Park District. In fact, the amount being asked of the Park District is overwhelming and most certainly unfair.

Under the proposed formula, the Park District stands to lose 20% of its operational budget, or about $17.5 million per year. Only five statewide entities are required to contribute more than the East Bay Regional Park District. While I realize local government will be affected by the state budget, the Park Districtís required contribution is dramatically severe and out of balance. From a local perspective, this proposed formula deals a severe blow to the region.

I urge you to support an alternative property tax shift formula that more fairly and equitably apportions the distribution.

Sincerely,

(your name)
