All (Yuri, Ollie, Maui Mike, LMG ;):
I need a NEMA IP55 type steel box. Like a breaker box, but breaker boxes aren't deep enough. Must be 6+ inches deep, other dimensions like 15+" tall by 10+" wide. Must be able to lock with padlock or internal lock.
I checked Home Depot, no deal. Searching all over the web, can't find the right thing or it's like 150+$. I figure some of you power pole, contractor people might know where to get one of these...Let me know if you have any ideas...
Thanks,
Jon

Try lowes.com, search for outdoor load center. Might be close to what you want (I assume you want a conduit fitting on the box). 6 inches deep is hard, though. You might have to get creative with layout.

Re: Need waterproof enclosure (steel box) for project
This is essentially what I need:
http://www.solarpanelstore.com/solar-po ... nfo.1.html
[could be smaller, just needs to be like 7" deep]
Any ideas about junk/surplus stores in the bay area that have such stuff?
@Wade: I think I'll try to dumpster dive first -- don't want to pay more than 75$ if possible...
Ammo box might be good if it can be vented. Hard to find one that is the right size...

Actually, needs vents -- this is the perfect thing with the lock and stuff:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Electrical-Enclosur ... 19ba1321ce
But it's too big and has a big hole in the back. I'm getting closer.

Is this replacing that fiberglass box on that aluminum bracket i made? that box will take a blow. I wouldnt worry about it too much. Just give it some good ventilation and shade it using the solar cell.
