SPI kite Round-up & Aboards longjump event

Post by Sol-flyer » Mon May 18, 2009 6:52 am

The 1st Annual SPI Kite board Round-up was absolutely amazing with over ten days of competitions, Gear Demo’s and Clinic’s. The Long jump contest sponsored by Aboards kite boarding turned out to be a highlight and a great way to start the event. Many people we’re jumping well over 25-30ft. in the air as the winds picked up to 35-40knts by mid-day. Gary Rhodes Made the longest jump of the weekend traveling a distance well beyond 100 ft in the air. It was a close heat as many competitors gave it their all to beat the longest record. I took some pretty heavy crashes and was awarded with “Biggest Wipe-out”. It was a very impressive competition and left many spectators in awe of what kind of jumping you can do with a kite.

The following days we’re every kiteboarder’s dream. We experienced good wind every single day with up to 90 deg. weather. The amount of stoke was amazing and with wonderful people on the beach and in the town. It became a morning ritual to do early down winders, then scoot off to the event site for each day’s main event. This was the one of the biggest amateur events of the year and the People at Air Padre Kite boarding & XL kites did a very great job. I’m looking forward to returning to this event every year.
