Stripped insert ???

Post by LD » Tue Apr 12, 2005 10:01 pm

I accidently srtipped one of my footstrap`s insert and there is only one hole on each side of the footpad so I `m stucked !!!
I actually manage to put the strap back in place but I don`t know how long it will last
Does anyone know what to do ???
I am pretty sure that I have to replace the insert but how ???
Do you know someone that can do this kind of job in the SF Bay area???

Thanx

i had heard in some cases you can take a piece of wood, wedge it between the screw and the insert walls, then screw the board in tightly. When water hits the wood it will cause it to expand and it will hold the screw in place very tightly.

As far as changing inserts im not sure if this is possible, you might be able to fill the hole with some kind of caulk or something stiffer to make "new threads". search on "kiteforum" there are threads with this topic.

Another option is to fill the hole with epoxy or JB Weld and once it's cured, drill a new hole smaller than the screw and then screw it in.

I'm actually worried about this with the board I bought recently. Using the hardware I got with it, the screws seem to be holding, but still turn if you keep tightening. I even tried loc-tite without success.

Is this going to be a problem with any board that doesn't have metal inserts? Can you have metal inserts installed if these fail?
