Baja border crossing

Post by mota » Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:46 pm

Has anyone had problems crossing the border at TJ? During daylight? We're crossing on the 27th and trying to decide if Tecate would be any better. On our way to stay with Bruce @ La Ventana.

Thanks - E 8)

Going in is a piece of cake, it's coming out that can takes ages....if you really don't like sitting in traffic cross at Tecate on the way back, but it does add a fair amount of time to the drive. You can also try the truck crossing (San Ysidro) which is East of TJ. It's often faster but it can be hard to find if you are doing it for the first time in the dark and don't know how to read Spanish...

Remember that you are supposed to get Tourist Cards to go that far south. Last time I did the drive (two years ago) we got them almost immediately after the TJ gate. Pull over in the parking spots to the right and ask someone - it is not marked and can be hard to find.

If necessary plan on fighting your way through, it doesn't matter what happens as long as you arrive. Its pretty hardcore in San Ignacio and Santa Rosalia and going off the last monthin Ventana Libre with good wind and waves-bro. Bruce makes pizza-mmmm.
