I just got back from a week of working on a job that was right on the beach near Kona on the Big Island. I got out and shot a few photos after work as well as got up at 3 am for a trip to the 13,796 ft summit of the island. It was one of the most spectacular sights i have ever seen and well worth it.
There was a small Hawaiian solstice ceremony being performed at sunrise which i was lucky to be there for.
Sorry. no kiting though.. but i did find out that one of the best beaches on that side of the island was right in front of my hotel at Wiakoloa. people were on 13-16m kites and light wind boards.... glad i didn't bring gear. I sat on the beach with mai tais instead. :)
Enjoy
