ikitesurf closes windgraphs

Post by knuthansen » Tue Jul 22, 2008 3:55 pm

Too bad. I just wanted to find out about the winds on crissy, but all the data is only available for members. It seems, that they closed several spots and want to earn money... but not mine...

I thought the Crissy Fields wind meters have always been reserved to premium subscribers? Can't you just make predictions and see what the neighboring free sites give you? You can also look at the NOAA website, stormsurf and pretty soon you will get good, just need a bit of work to do it yourself if you don't want to pay for the premium package. Oh, and don't forget the cameras, just open the wind cams and see if there's somebody kiting.

They did the same thing for Sherman Marker 12. Like previously stated, theres enough resources out there that with a little effort you can get a good idea of forecast and current wind without paying.

Convenient? I mean it's a nice site for an overall view but I found nothing for Sherman.

What Supermonkey said. It's less than $10 a month if you join for a year. It costs me that much in gas to drive one way to Sherman (my local spot) and WAY more to drive to Waddell (they need to get that friggin phone line fixed, though).

And you WILL miss sessions that Ikite subscribers get when the free forecasts are wrong...

Forecast? Hell, I wish I had a dollar for every time he or it was wrong. As for cheap... let's just say not all of us are as blessed to be rich bastards.

I lost 3rd Ave. Channel as well- my primary sensor. Pretty much useless now without a sub. Surfline is only $70 bucks a year. WTF? I'd say 100/yr is not quite good value, but extremely convenient to get everything in one click after customizing myiK.
