Best Bay Area Kiting Instruction?

Post by SikeMo » Thu Jul 17, 2008 11:12 am

Hello,

Just wondering if there was any kind of consensus as to which Bay Area kiting instructor to use. Hopefully, I will be taking some lessons in late August. These are the three that I have found:

Wind Over Water
Kite Wind Surf
Boardsports School

Kitewindsurf will get you to wind no matter what. Nothing but positive results so far.

Yup, get your instructions soon, late August, wind will be dying, you want to get lessons early in the season so you can practice, practice, practice....

I took lessons with KWS, and had a positive experience. My wife has been taking lessons with Sandy @ Kitopia, and I would personally recommend them too.

I agree, if you can swing earlier lessons, go for it. You will not be getting much riding Late Fall -> Winter, unless you're traveling.

First get a trainer kite, and teach yourself some kite control.

Then I think Kitopia is a great kite school partly because the wind is so good there that it makes it easy for a beginner to get up and ride, and partly because quality of instruction is top notch. You can tell Sandy and Donny really have a lot of experience teaching.
Free your mind and your azz will follow. GC

At this time of year, the Delta would offer the warmest and most pleasant learning experince and best chances for solid wind throughout the day and hence the greatest flexibility in scheduling your lessons. And yes, sooner is better! Get your time in now and get out as much as you can to build a basis and foundation to draw upon at the onset of the 09 season.

Get a lesson asap. I had a lesson last August last year and managed to get only one practice (in Alameda) before wind disappeared. I eventually picked it up after a "cold" start this season.

Where are you located? San Francisco? I would go to the one that is closed for you to get too...practice practice practice!

I went to Boardsportschool and was extremely thrilled with the lessons, great beach access, 2 way radio's and up and going on the board in the second lesson...Talk to the instructors, see what you like and go with what is closed to you, and you like the most.

Thanks for all the info, guys.

I am IN SF, so I think Sherman is a little far.

Maybe I will try for early August if I can get the time off.
