Well how do i start?
Frist of all, know the down side of your session, look at the wind path and see were you might end up. See if you can find a path to self rescue. (Get back to the shore were your car is, next get back to a shore, any shore).
Next get ready to spend the night on your kite, rolled up tight.
Every time I hit the water I think about what if.
I know it seems a little down, but it helps me make good decisions early.
Pluse it makes the 20 min rule go faster (watching the water for 20 to see what the" thing is"
The thing is, Get a feel for the wind , find the pattern of it .
Get in rhythm.
Get in tune with the wind.
Work to weather in the puffs, don't run kiting off into dying winds!
Keep both eyes open!

Good points Charlie, but you there's no way some of us are going to sit around for 20 minutes if it's blowing. Plus, running off to kite in dying winds will just make you a stronger kiter.
But, no, seriously folks, he's right. And don't forget to act like you have some sense when you go kite somewhere else besides your regular spot!
