Sacramento Area Kiting Locations

Has anyone tried kiting at Lake Natomas or Rancho Seco? I have heard that these are common wind surfing and/or sailing spots with pretty consistent winds.

The two standard locations for the sac area are Folsom lake and thermalito near Chico. Lake Natomas is too small to kite and has a cliff on one side that would create some gnarly rotors. There is a pretty big crew at Folsom lake (relative) nowadays. We kite dyke 8 on north winds and granite bay on south. We are almost at the end of the storm season which is the same as the kite season. All of our wind here is frontal, not thermal. But there is a really short window )now through May and October) where Folsom can be really nice-- warm air and water.

I've heard that seco has some thermal wind in the summer but I have never tired it. If I was going to drive for wind anyway, I'd go to the delta where it is sure to be better. It is less than an hour from sac.
