Stinson Sunday?

Post by zgur » Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:05 am

Looks like storm winds on Sunday. I've been wanting to get it on a S wind/w south swell for some time.

Any takers?

Is that "the place" for open ocean riding on the storm fronts? I did not know that...

Chores today then?

Hello Z! If you want to get some really fun south winds, I've got a spot I know you haven't tried. It's not the best waves...more open ocean swell but the wind is great and the boostiness off the jetty is insane. Try out Doran Beach! You gotta drive all the way to the end of the road and park at the Jetty. Launch right at the jetty and go out a half mile from there and you are in the middle of the bay with some nice swell. Butter flat water on the way in and out with elevator wind coming off the jetty. Biggest jumps of my life were 5 years ago off that jetty!

Count me in. It's been too long since I've flown my 7. I think I'll bring my gloves this time. And my new hooded rashguard. Thanks as usual Z for the heads up.

I believe that HMB is your destination south of SF for storm kiting, but that's flat water not waves...

Sunday

Post by zgur » Sat Dec 01, 2007 11:15 am

Dave - I'm with my big/little man, Jared, as Mom is w/Johanna training in Boreal, both skiing and 'dryland' - running, jumping, sit ups, push ups.....do you know how it feels when your 10 year old daughter can do more push ups then you can? embarassing....On sunday, I'm hoping that grandma will work with me and watch the big man for a few hours while dad kites? tbd.....

I'm not sure I'd call stinson 'the' place for storm winds, but.....it has a good S. exposure, which should mean good winds. There is a south swell forecast as well for sunday, so it could work....always been curious about it....I don't like to ride the bay after a bunch of oil went in there.....will take a bit more cleansing before I want to get emerged....

Gabe - man, if I had a bit more time on Sunday, I'd be all over that....love esploring.....are you free wed?

Well it was until I got there anyway. Probably came back up after I left, too. Gabe's call for Bodega/Doran would have been a better bet.

FYI, the waves at Stinson today were a mess. I think I'd rather kite at OB; at least the big ones break farther from shore and give you a chance to get going before you have to jump them.

Hope others got some riding in; HMB and Doran looked like the places to be.
