Forecaster Deathmatch: NWS kicks IWS's butt

Post by Bulldog » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:01 pm

For the weather geeks:

NWS Sacto forecast today: Return to onshore flow, limited marine layer so minimal cooling but good pressure gradient boosts Delta breeze to 20 plus by evening.

Ikite forecast today: NNE wind heats up Bay and kills wind everywhere except maybe Waddell and the slot.

Who got it right -- check the sensors. It's windy everywhere.

Funny,

edit line 6.44

This morning i looked at the fog sat image..
there was a tiff -it, of fog right off the gate..
by 8 am the bank was 3/4 of the way up the big raido tower,in the city.

at the 11.30 update
the nph nw wind
was in full face of a sw fog induced push.
very hard to pro-dick what wins..
some sw fog ..mixed with nph nw push...= taDaY.
very funny mix.

you can see the next push , come n.

Rich, that forecast actually isn't necessarily good news for the Delta this weekend. If it cools down too much on Friday, it's going to get cloudy and the pressure gradient is going to disappear to Sac. Same thing that happened this past weekend.

Onshore flow without fog in SF or heat in Sacto equals fluky, up and down, light wind at SI. It comes through in pulses instead of smooth and steady.

Should be good tomorrow and Thursday, though.

Paul,

All I know is, though It was a bit light parts of last weekend, I was way powered on a 4.2 sail from 6am till 10am, (it was gusting to 35mph on the graph) then I was on an 11m kite at 11am...

I can only say that most of the world would like to have a 20 mph breeze as it was most of the entire weekend. Maybe we are all just spoiled at Sherman.

As always I will stick with my forecast of good / kitable wind this weekend.
As I look back I can only feel I still have yet to be skunked this Summer.
I hope I am right, only time will tell.

Oh yah, here is weather.com 10 day forecast link for Fairfield
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/b ... v_business

We should all be out right now as it's blowing 27 gusting to 33 !!!

The best wind at SI this month has been mid-week, this week is going to be no exception.

I think it's safe to say that if it only blew from 6 am. til 10 am every day at Sherman most summers, it wouldn't be quite such a popular kiting spot. Much respect to the dawn patrol crew.

Weather's going to change next week, looks like more of a real summer pattern setting up. 'Course, technically summer just started, so...

Well I sure hope I'm not right about the wind yesterday being the best of the week. Up and down, flukey, wrong direction, yuck.

And the graph today doesn't look much better.

Maybe the best news is that they're calling for regular summer weather starting next week, 105 Tues., 108 Weds. Then all we need is some nice fog in the Bay...

Paul,

On that note, it looks like a major heating spell later next week, well into the low 100's in Sac and even into the high 90's in Fairfield.

As always we will need to wait and see but for now I am going down to Sherman for a great mid 20's session on my 9m

Hope to see you there.
