kitesurfing and windsurfing rental locations from SF to LA

Post by jpinedo » Tue Jul 18, 2006 3:55 am

Hi, I'll be travelling from Spain to San Francisco and spend the 2nd
and 3rd week of August from San Francisco to LA.
I would like to spend some days kite/windsurfing and depending on your
answers I may choose to spend more days in a specific area.

Which spots would you recommend with more probabilities of high winds?
I have intermediate level (waterstart, jibe, first jumps) so I don't
need very aggressive wave conditions (kite or windsurfing equipment for rental is a must because I won't be able to bring my gear).

Do I need to bring my own arness and wetsuit?

thanks!

Plan on Windsurfing only, Kites cannot be rented in Calif. due to liability insurance restrictions.
Aug. is fabulous for wind in the S.F. Bay Area!, Sacramento river delta is best bet for warm water/air,
and very high winds!!!.

Southern Calif. near LA has one good reliable spot to windsurf: Cabrillo Beach, the rest are usually too light
to windsurf in the middle of summer.

Oh Yea, spring suit for delta, Full 4/3mm or more for Crissy / Treasure Island, or coast.
And yes I would bring your own wetsuits and harness

Thanks for your answer. I'll spend 3 or 4 days at the bay area. Actually I'm looking for a hotel in Sausalito, Fisherman's Wharf or any other nice place around.

Would you recommend any specific place for renting the windsurfing gear and sail?

Not sure who rents the best gear in bay area, but try: kitewindsurf.com, or advancedsurfdesign.com (ASD), or Boardsports.com :)
