To Pismo or not to Pismo?

Post by elli » Thu Jun 29, 2006 3:21 pm

I am thinking of going there sometime next week after the 4th madness is over.

Is it worth taking the wind risk? I know it gets lighter down south. If a local can throw a word on average kite size and general wind conditions it would be great.

Also, is it all waves or some flatter spots around the beach?

Thanks

Pismo is usually on-shore. The surf is mostly small sand-bar break. The inside can be super buttery and shallow. You can ride for what seems like for-ever. Dont fly kites anywhere near nesting birds!!!! BAD JU-JU!
Good up-wind skills will be very helpfull.

Here's a link to a spot North of Pismo/Cambria where you'll find most of the local central coast kiters. I saw Kinsley there last time I went down(He organized the kite-expo) . Nice bunch of guys! Someone even gave me bottle of "Windy Ridge" wine from a winery he worked at.

Enjoy,

First time I went out at Piedras Blancas I was fixated on the water as I walked my gear down, then I heard this huge fart, and looked over to see these massive elephant seals basking everywhere.
You know that's gotta be a sharky place with all them seals (snacks).
