First Day of may brings wind

Post by zgur » Mon May 01, 2006 8:49 am

If you want to kite today, be at one of the following places:
1. Crissy
2. Coast (which also has building swells)

Wed - go to the delta.

Get some, Z.

3rd

Don't have as much experience @ third..I'm better @ sherman/berkely and the promised land - coast.......

based on the NNW flow above and the N to S pressure gradient, I would say that it will be more like 14/16m weather, and light near shore.....

forecasting really is quite tough, since the data available is regional, and the climates that we have are micro-micro-micro based. Not to mention, to do a good job forecasting, you need to gather micro level data every hour....for example, land heating and the low it creates can sometimes suck the wind closer to shore then forecast (this happens on the coast with Monterey bay/Santa cruz getting hot, and the thermal low sucking the NW energy close to the coast). Bottom line, there are way more factors then one can really process.

I really respect Stu/Mike at ikite. Unlike the dudes on TV, these guys need to be a lot more accurate on a much more micro scale. When they are right, no one gives them credit. When they are wrong, people rip on them.

Here is my educated guess for 3rd:
20% chance of riding 12m kite (if this happens, it will come up late and quick)
65% chance of 14/16m kite
15% chance getting skunked with work/weather.

Good winds, Z.

Let's hope the forecast validates!
3 days in a row of shutoff winds in Berkeley. At least I didn't get stuck with all the downwinder drifters on Sat, but I made up for it Sun. and yesterday.
