Any wind anywhere today?

Post by Pablito » Sun Apr 30, 2006 9:17 am

So N wind in the valley has returned unforecasted and screwed up Sherman for the day.

I need to kite today. Is there going to be good wind anywhere? I don't believe the Ikite forecast, because it's already so wrong. Is Berkeley going to pull through?

Well how about that? I'm off to Tomales for oysters but will be packing the gear "just in case".

.... here is a very unscientific view, just using intellicast, pressure maps and temperature forecasts - and own experience
..today...
3rd Ave may get into the mid to higher teens (later in the afternoon potential even for lower twenties) and the coast (Waddell) looks
like having potential to be either the same or better than yesterday.

The pressure map at http://virga.sfsu.edu/gif/sathts_pac_snd_00.gif
looks MUCH better than yesterday (tighter isobars, more energy) and Intellicast shows a lot more general activity. The direction of the flow is very NW (which keeps the winds at the coast or Westside of the Bay).

But the good news:
Today also the temperature differential is forecasted much higher (>20 degF) than yesterday....actually to a point where a thermal flow should happen. That could help to not just generate thermal wind but also suck in the pressure gradients (= later in the day there could be a very nice breeze at all places which benefit from the thermals).

Berkeley, Crissy, Sherman, all those thermal wind places may see late afternoon bliss.

Hey - even Alamda could get it's "7 o clock push".
But if you want to go earlier in the day you may want to chose the coast.

See you out there! - Sylvia

So, did it happen anywhere? Pt. Emery looked pretty sketchy with that hour lull in the middle of the pm.
