AHEM..Snow report, please

Post by Pablito » Sun Dec 18, 2005 8:22 pm

Josh,
It is your solemn duty as a member of this site to SPILL YOUR GUTS about the new snow at Tahoe.

You've been up there for two days, and all we get is a cryptic reference to "ice".

Sorry, I posted in two other threads but a summary:

Ice? There was a couple inches on the shoreline of Prosser Reservoir. I was just messing around with a trainer, nothing serious. Barely enough wind to keep it up, only brief moments of traction.

Invented a new sport -- ice skimming. Grab a chunk of ice, run at it (this is also fun), and try to get a ride before it cracks and you fall over.

Snow report?

We went out to dinner Saturday night and had maybe an inch when we got back (back being just north of Truckee). Woke up to maybe 7-8". We left for the resort around 8AM, and it was raining from there to Northstar's parking lot. Was snowing the entire day on the mountain, but was raining heavily when we got back to the parking lot.

I expected there to be much more snow at Martis Meadows, could still easily see the brush & grass.

Plenty of snow on the top/backside, was there the day before and had at least 12+" of fresh (heavy wet) powder.

On the way home, Caltrans said chains required from Donner to Kingvale. However, they downgraded the chain requirement.

It was supposed to be snowing over the summit, but just barely, it was a mix of snow and rain.

I don't think I saw any snow after passing Nyack.

Hopefully the temp drops!

(p.s. it was blowing pretty good at the top of the resort, had a few whiteout moments.)
