Bay Area in late June

Post by K3rM1t » Thu Jun 08, 2006 10:14 am

Hi all-

I've got a week off coming up at the end of June and I'll be headed up to the bay area (from SD). I'm hoping to get some kiteboarding in while I'm there and meet a few of the bay area crew.

I've been out to Sherman the last few times I've been up there but it was stormy, rainy, and thunderous both times. I've also pumped up at 3rd only to have the wind die and the poor souls who had launched had to swim back in. I'm really hoping this trip will be better!

I'd love some advice on where to go and what to bring. I just ordered a TD 12m and I've got all my SoCal light wind gear that I could lug along. I'll also be bringing my camera, so if you see me on the beach, smile!

Should be good. King of the bay is going on at 3rd I think the weekend of the 23rd.

SI rocks in June (generally.) I've ridden 5 out of the past 8 days-- skipped a few just to give my ancient body a break. If it's hot inland and foggy at the coast you're good to go. When the fog retreats, go farther west, plenty of options for you I'm sure.

Bring beer and we will smile for sure!
Go bigga'

June is very good month to be here!.

Don't forget the small kites if you got-um.

PM me when you are here and I can show you one of
East Bays least tasted flavors, if conditions are right!.

Thanks everyone!

fearlu, I'll have beers chillin for you!

Don, how small is small? I was hoping to travel with a STD12 and a couple boards. Do I need to bring a 9m?

Bummer that king of the bay is the 23! I have a wedding to be at...

Yes, bring a 9m, as most spots in the bay get strong!.

Sailing is better than going to King of the Bay, but a wedding
is dependent upon outcome!?!. :)

Well I'm here and it seems to be windy

I wasn't able to get out during the weekend, but I have all week to chase the wind around the bay. Anyone else have the week off?

Thanks everyone who replied. I was able to kite Sherman on a 20m on Monday, 3rd on a 12m on Tuesday and even got in the water in Monterey over the weekend for a last-day-of-vacation-desperation-kite.

Mixed with some fun surf sessions in the cold water and a great wedding it turned out to be a great trip.

I had the camera at 3rd and have some pics of a few locals. I'll post them to my site soon and post the link here.
