Hi guys! Im new to the scene and very excited but im having trouble picking a kite size for my weight im 165lbs. Some advise I got was to go for 11m and eventually 7m for next season... is that a good size to have and cover most of the wind range?

I'm around that and have a 10/8/6 and it's good for all conditions that are worth going out in

At about the same weight 7/9/12 covered whole range.

I don't think a 7 would be your everyday kite, and neither would an 11. If you had to have 2 kites, I think 9 and 12. If you need a 3rd, add a 7 for big days, or coast. 9 should be your go to. I'm smaller, I use an 8 almost every day, and I enjoy the days when I can get out on my 6.

Well, 7m is a must for Sherman 20kts+ days for 160lbs.

Its a doable quiver… i did it for a couple years… but it is a big jump from 7 to 11… you will end up with over or under powered sessions

Like many said, 7 to 11 is too much of a gap. It's doable, sure, with the kite range that you can get from all the new equipment, but still.
Since you are a beginner, you'll probably won't go out on the days that you need a 7m just yet. Get a 9 and an 11. Then later, grab a 7m for the coast, Sherman island or big spring days at third ave.
Season is almost over in terms of smooth thermal type of winds. Save some money and buy some used equipment early springs next year when all the crazies (like me) sell their whole quiver in order to get the latest and greatest...

^^^ what he said, 9 and 11 is what you want, or maybe even 8 and 10.

Re: Is 11m and 7m good combo for 165lbs?
When I started kiting I was 180lbs, and got 9m+12m conventional 3struts kites in the beginning of the season, so I've got number of overpowered days while loosing weight. Later on I extended quiver by 7m strutless which fly more like 8m, but has great depower, later on I replaced 9m+12m by 9m and that was enough during end of the season, now I've got 12m strutless to extend range over light days.
So, I would suggest to prepare for next season now if you find good deal or wait, get an universal midrange 9m+12m or 8m+11m freeride kites and later on expand into direction you'll find suits you more, e.g. if you find lacking high wind kite get an 7m/6m or 14m-17m if you enjoy cruising in light wind.
