Another newb from the valley

Newb to the whole kiteboard thing. However I do have a lot of hours flying a hang glider. Im only relating this because weather plays a major factor in both sports.
Im 44yrs old in good shape and all my joints are in working order. I have very limited time on a wake board, I was able to get up first pull and maybe have a couple hours of goofing off in the delta. TRACY ca.
I understand the learning curve ... is it practical to start ground school with Fall around the corner or wait for spring? I live in Modesto ca and have the ability to take weekday lessons which seem to be the best ( more one on one ) with the instructor.
Is it the case to use and abuse the schools equipment during the learning process, then start buying your gear as you progress. Again sorry trying to relate to Hang Gliding learning process.
Look forward to learning what looks like another great solo sport.
Where and who would you all suggest I take lessons from ?
