Silver Strand in San Diego

Ever since I saw this video of a guy kitesurfing Silver Strand with dolphins, I've wanted to check it out. But the forecast for Silver Strand always shows low teens. Has anyone kited there? What's the ideal season to visit there? Or is low teens to be expected, and maybe I just need to get a bigger kite if I want to do Silver Strand?

You got it! San Diego is practically famous for it's lack of wind.

I kited there years ago in Aug on a 19m fuel and a big board. It was actually nice with nice waves, but the wind sucked.

Fyi, dolphins are a pretty common site at crissy among other wildlife.

SD has really nice consistent sea breeze you just need to make sure you bring your LW gear for 5 - 15 knots

SoCal is so beautiful to kite and just beautiful in general.. there are some amazing spots in LA too

SC-surfer: where did you see dolphins? Ramsey: I have never seen dolphins at Crissy field. I've seen plenty of sea lions (seals?) though

They come by out front of my place in Santa Cruz at least twice a day. I'm not giving out the location though ;-)

We have a fun beach where there is usually wind when Wadell/Scott's are dead. Small local crew. Pm me if y'all want to come down and ride. I'll share the 'secret'.
