Hello folks,

I had a few days of PTO to burn and thought I will give a shot to SPI. I understand my timing might not be ideal as it is right in the middle of Spring Break...oh well.

I have been kiting 3rd for 3months last year and I have my own gear, but I am going with a buddy who wants to learn and I think he would be wiser for him to get a real instructor. Any body has any recommendation? Also, any suggestion on cheap accomodation for 3?

Thanks

Regis

Ok just in case anybody else is interested we have reserved a 2 bedrooms, 1 bath unit here: www.southpadrevacationrental.com/oleander.htm.

apparently it is a 4-plex managed by the South Beach Inn folks. Price was reasonable given that, sadly, this falls right in the middle of Spring Break

Hopefully the winds will be good.

Also we have one spot available if someone want to join. Ping me if you are interested.

I thought I would post a short update in case other members consider going to SPI.

- avoid going there during spring break. Flights are overbooked and all prices on the island go up :)
- We were a party of 3 and rented a 2 bedrooms apartment on Oleander st. The rental was managed by Stacie from the South Beach Inn. http://www.southbeachtexas.com/
- My friend took lesson with David and Teran from http://www.xlkites.com/. Both were very knowledgeable, friendly and went well beyond the call of duty. They made us feel more like buddies than customers. My friend ended up buying a Slingshot Key package from them.
- Wind conditions were less than ideal so we stuck to the flats located immediately behind the SPI Convention center. There is no fee to access that location, winds were all over the place both in terms of strength and direction but we were told things settle down later in the season.

Overall it was a fun trip but it nevertheless felt a lot of travel for a spot that doesn't offer that much more than 3rd av. Again things could be different at a different time of the year.

Feel free to ping me if you need any info
