Kiteboarding Oahu North Shore

Does anyone have any advice about kiting on Oahu's North Shore? I am going to be near Waimea bay for a week for a wedding. I am going to take my 9m and 142cm board which gives me the best range of conditions.
Kailua seems to be the main spot. I have windsurfed there before so I can see how it would be great for kites too, but it is long way.
Mokuleia looks closer. I am a solid intermediate kiter so I think it is within my abilities.
Having to pay Hawaiian Airlines $100 each way to take my board is a bummer. I would rent if I was going to kite at Kailua, but the only kite shops I could find are too far from Mokuleia to bother with going to pick up the board.
Does anyone know any other spots worth checking out?
