Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - any info?

Later this week we are going to Dominican Republic, but Cabarete is not in the itinerary. I am wondering if anyone has ever been in Punta Cana and would really appreciate any advise/recommendations about kiteboarding over there.

I know this is a very old topic, however I'm dropping in what I saw.
I go to Punta Cana every April and staying at same resort for about 10 days.
I haven't kited there (next April I will) but the Playa Del Bavaro (norh side of the island) where i'm at, I did wind surf it, kayak it, you name it.
It seems totally kitable, constant cross onshore wind, on the lighter side I'd say in April, no wave breakers at all there and they have a coral reef probably half a mile out where waves break.
Also the waters are not infested with Sea Urchins or anything at all that i have encountered while windsurfing. I did see sea turtles twice i think.
