Anyone flew into Fiji for kiting from SFO? Does it have to be from LAX? Any travel info would be great, as I recently found out my girlfriend lives there so I must go there kiting!

I know Steve was talking about going to Fiji when I met him in maui but I wonder if he actually returned...

Thanks!

Yoko

I went to Fiji with my parents for christmas break.
All flights to Fiji leave from LAX, so you'll have to fly down there first. The flight leaves at around 11 at night and lands at Nadi at around 5 in the morning, so if you are able to sleep on the plane the jet lag won't be too bad.

I didn't kite while I was there since i'm still learning (I did pull out the trainer kite a few times though), but where I was (Kadavu island) the wind usually picked up early-mid morning and again at around 2 in the afternoon until sunset. When it picked up, it got up to a good 20 knots or so.

When I left, the rainy season just began, which means more humidity, hotter, more mosquitoes so be prepared for that.

If you need any more info on fiji PM me, i'm still fresh from my trip

I remember Steve talking about Fiji too. If you didn't know, he has a website at http://www.kiter.com, if you wanted to get in touch with him.

Was just in Fiji

Hey there, there is a direct flight from SFO to Auckland or Sydney (via Air NZ), and take a connector to Nadi (also Air NZ. Don't forget, it's pronounced, "Nandi". I spent a week there, no kiting, but I will say, I highly recommend getting off of Nadi as soon as possible. I was told all the kiting to be done, should be on the outer islands. I remember Robinson Crusoe Island (sounds lame, but is a cool spot), had a really windy beach which takes about 10 minutes to walk to, on (i believe) the north side of the island. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Hey there,

We spent 5 months in Fiji in 2004 kiting everywhere. Even had the F.One crew out for 10 days- they made a movie kiting Namotu, Cloudbreak, and up at the north end of Vanua Levu. I wrote an article about kite spots in Fiji and would be happy to give you lots of beta. Send me an email.

Cheers,

Gavin
