Kitesurfing Exuma

I just got back from a week excursion to The Bahamas. The trip was not planned as a kitesurf only trip as I took my wife on our first long vacation sans the kids since they were born. I had done some research and spoke with Felix at Exumakitesurfing.com. Felix was very helpful with accommodations and information about the island. Exuma is a quiet island and it intends to stay that way. The Bahimian dollar is on par with the US and everyone speaks English, although being a former British colony they still drive on the wrong side of the road. We stayed at a house at silver beach. The house had its own pool and a great view of the ocean. I was able to kite right out in front and the beach works in most wind directions. There was enough wind to kite out in front 7 out of 8 days. There are waves in Exuma but the feature here is the flat water riding. Felix has excursions to spots that you only see in the magazines. Small Cay’s that you boat out to for supper flat water riding on one side in the turquoise waters is the attraction and Exuma does not fail to deliver. The food on the island is mostly fish, small road side shacks can offer stuffed lobster and Conk burgers on the same menu. We scuba dived, swam with sharks, there are two golf courses although I don’t golf, feed swimming pigs, visited an island full of iguanas as well as just chilled and enjoyed the relaxed attitude the island has to offer. The kitesurfing season begins in mid October and runs through mid spring. I only rode my 10M kite and my twin tip and I weigh 180 lbs. I would say the spot would work well for those who want to kite and friends who are just looking to get away.
