I've been seeing kiteboarders all summer and it looks like a lot of fun. So I've desided to invest in a trainer kite before i head out for my fist lesson. After some research ive desided to buy a 4 line trainer that i could use snowboarding and skating as well. I was thinking about the following kites in no order:
HQ Beamer 3.6, NewTech 3.6, or the radsail 3.0.

I weight 145 and am 6'2.

Would any of these kites suit my needs?

Would they be too big for me?

Would anyone recomend the radsail over the other two? *The radsails cheaper*

Thanks

Search the forum and you will find information.

Size wise, if you have never flown a stunt kite or a smaller two line kite of some sort you may be overwhelmed the first time. At 145 a 3 meter kite can drag you around in 15 MPH. You should have someone experienced with you if this is the first kite you fly.

HQ Beamer: Don't get version 1. Get the latest that has the bar (not handles). Good choice.

New Tech ñ lower quality than the beamer. Get one with the bar and safety system. I have seen them fall apart.

Radsail ñ same deal. Lower quality, get the latest one with the bar. Radsail sizes are little weird, I think it's the wing span rather than the area, so a 3 meter radsail actually has less area than a 3 square meter kite. Radsails are high aspect, so not ideal for a first kite, but good if you try to jump or ride a buggy.

Others to consider: PKD Buster and Ozone kites. Here you are stepping up in quality, performance and price.

Either way, have fun and ride safe. If you try to mountain board with the kite, you get more experience that will help you when you try to kiteboard on the water.

I would recommend either the Ozone IMP Large (great kite, it is equivalent to a 3m and comes with a safety)

or the HQ 3.6 with comes with a 3rd line for brake / depowering. (we have in stock but not showing them online)

They are both fun and powerful. Check for more details on the live2kite website http://www.live2kite.com or come over in Sausalito to take a look.
Cheers,

What about a T Foil Trainer for only $65?

I have a friend that wants to get into kiteing but doesn't want to spend lots of cash.

Is this 1m kite a joke or just a cheep alternitive?

Thanks

The one that you are talking about 1m is just a toy. you need something bigger and slower / more stable.
To save money try the Rush 2.0 or 2.5. It's the one that acts a lot like a regular kite, so that will give you a good perspective of the real thing.
They are great quality and highly recommended.
