Grass Lake 2/5 Weekend

Post by Yoda » Fri Feb 04, 2011 2:35 pm

Grass Lake is best with moderate to strong NNW winds and should be great this weekend... forecast is for strong N winds. I caught it yesterday for about an hour, but the winds died off as it warmed up. I plan to hit it up again this weekend. Come out & join me. If it sucks, then half-day riding at Sierra of LT or backcountry lines are just minutes away.

If the wind for some reason doesn't comply for snowkiting this weekend then this event could be a good plan B...

Grass Lake is on the right side of the road at Luther Pass just E of SLTahoe on highway 89 (Luther Pass Rd) about 10+ minutes from Meyers. Plenty of spots to park & just a short hike off the highway to epic snowkiting potential. Hope Valley is just minutes away and could also be worth checking out.

I"ll be up there from Thursday to Tuesday next week. Hope to get some this time. Every time I go up there, I try but the wind never works out. Grass lake is the only spot I've tried though because I'm not willing to drive more from were I stay at in south lake.

I ended up passing in Grass Lake yesterday due to late arriving winds. Folsom Lake was slated to go off in the afternoon and it payed off passing on snowkiting... Folsom Lake was EPIC yesterday!!!

I caught Grass Lake today. Me and a buddy had the place to ourselves and we kited for a several hours before the wind got light and inconsistent in the late afternoon. I only wish the wind was a little stronger during our session, but it was good enough to get some decent jumps & stay upwind on 11m kites plus the snow was perfect for kiting on.
