Weekend of the 4th in Tahoe

Post by KillaHz » Wed Dec 01, 2004 1:36 pm

We have lot's of new snow up here. We have wind forcasted for every day of the next week. Come on up to South lake Tahoe and join us for some snow kiting.

It's blowing 15 - 25 on the ridges right now. With up to 3 feet of new snow at the high elevations, this weekend promises to go off!

I can't ride until the weekend and would be happy to show some people around.

I was down in the bay this weekend and although I got some decent riding, I think I drove more for it than a weekend trip to Tahoe.

Time to turn snow kiting into a reality if you have not allready done so.

Whoever can go, should go and take advantage of that offer! I can't make it this weekend, but will this season for sure.

Just got back from a nice little 2 hour lunch session.

7m kite right infront of the Casinos on Lake Tahoe.

It's frozen for a few hundred yards with some nice snow on top.

You could kite the entire south shore of the lake right now.

Hey KillaHz, is it common for Tahoe to freeze over along the shore? Is it especially shallow on the south shore?

Gabe, my plan is to come up and take you up on your offer (thanks for offering by the way).

I am thinking to leave early am Saturday.

Let's talk logistics, what time and where can we meet?

Is 11 am Sat morning too late? too early? 12 noon??

last year was a bit of a drought year. The beach got pretty big and the lake is naturally shallow for a few hundred yards out.

What we have now is about 100 yds. of beach that is covered with snow and then another 100 or so yds of shallow water that is frozen with snow on top.

It's actually starting to shape up to be what's looking like a big snow weekend. The winds can be tricky to call if it dumps. The hard part is timing. If it comes in Sat. night as forcast, then no problem if it comes in earlier...bye, bye wind. Either way, we're getting snow!

Let's play it by ear...I'll update tomorrow afternoon to let you knwo where the weather is at.

Typically for a day trip, it's best to be here around 10:00 am. That way we can meet in town. Cell phone's don't work to well once we get out of town and there are only a handful of spots to ride in town.

Hey Gabe, what's the update? NWS now says:

"Partly cloudy and windy. Highs 32 to 42. West winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the southwest 20 to 30 mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 45 mph in the upper elevations"

This is good, right?

Yeah, I'd say it's looking pretty good for a couple spots this weekend. I will likely go to Hope Valley which is right at the junction of 88 and 89 on your way to Kirkwood from South shore.

If you want to pm me your phone, I can call you in the am.
