I go skiing, but will throw a kite and harness in the car just in case. Weather looks great, wind does not. Maybe on Sunday.

Are any of the following places worth checking out this weekend? Anyone been there and knows the conditions?

Martis Meadows, Hope Valley, Squaw, Kirkwood

Saturday forecast for Tahoe:

SATURDAY...
SKY/WEATHER.........PARTLY CLOUDY.
MAX TEMPERATURE.....
VALLEYS..........AROUND 40.
MIN HUMIDITY........
VALLEYS..........54-64%.
20-FOOT WINDS.......
VALLEYS/SLOPE....LIGHT WINDS.
RIDGE TOP........NORTHWEST 20 TO 25 MPH.
MIXING HEIGHT.......9500-10000 FT MSL.
TRANSPORT WINDS.....LIGHT WINDS.

Probably only wind at Red Lakes Ridge (hiking)

Sunday south winds are supposed to develop, but not much. I think most of the next week would be a good time to try to hike up the ridge. Not much chance of getting nuked into Nevada.

So the wind today and for the next two days in Tahoe is perfect for kiting at Grass Lake (and maybe Martis?). Steadyf east winds at low elevations.

I was on the mountain at Alpine Sat. and today, and I found myself wishing I was kiting a few times today while riding the lift up in the wind.

Snow is beautiful, too -- light and deep, and plenty of it even at 6000 feet. I don't think I'll be making it this round, but I'm hoping that snowkite season is now officially underway in Tahoe.

Elli, if you went out Sunday, I'm sure you got some riding in...

Thanks for the info. I did not get to kite, but got a lot of downhill. Good practice to get the rusty joints back to working order. Saturday was beautiful, Sunday had clouds and winds in high elevations, lost my way in the wood but eventually got back. At low level it was great weather. I wished I was kiting on Sunday.

I hope snowkite season is on. I think we need another dump to make it kiteable next week, snow was starting to ice and slush on Sunday.
