Not a kiting post, but more of a surfing post since this is a discussion about big waves. Tuesday and Wednesday was among my best surfing session this season. Check out Santa Cruz Sentinel's video at Steamer's Lane:
http://www.santacruzlive.com/blogs/video/?p=422

It was treacherous out there. Coast Guard and rescue volunteers were out there plucking out surfers who got in trouble. We got one confirmed fatality, and a bunch of rescues:

Big wave forecast coming for January 5, 2007 from stormsurf:
"Potentially locally generated and very raw Swell #11 arriving building to 23 ft@ 17 secs" SouthWest Winds 10-15 knots early, 35-40 foot waves 295-304 degrees swell direction.

I hope the waves will be visible from the shore with binoculars, planning to drive and watch waves either at Ghost Tree or Mavericks. Should be epic, probably blown out. I wonder if somebody is going to try and kitesurf the waves if the conditions are right.
