AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN FRANCISCO CA
530 AM PDT WED MAR 21 2007

DISCUSSION...THE FRONTAL SYSTEM THAT BROUGHT SOME RAIN TO THE
DISTRICT YESTERDAY HAS MOVED INTO NEVADA. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE
DISTURBANCE IS MOVING SOUTHWARD ACROSS CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THIS
MORNING. THIS SYSTEM HAS PRODUCED A FEW SHOWERS OVER THE INTERIOR
PORTIONS OF OUR DISTRICT OVERNIGHT. LIVERMORE REPORTED A TRACE OF
RAIN AT 2 AM. RADAR INDICATES A FEW MORE SHOWERS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER
THE NORTH BAY AND IS MOVING SOUTH TOWARDS THE SFO BAY AREA SO HAVE
MENTIONED A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A SPRINKLE OR LIGHT SHOWER EARLY THIS
MORNING...OTHERWISE IT WILL BE PARTLY CLOUDY.

AS THE DISTURBANCE CONTINUES MOVING SOUTHWARD IT WILL EVENTUALLY FORM
INTO A CUTOFF LOW SOUTH OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE CUTOFF LOW IS
THEN FORECAST TO STALL OVER NORTHERN BAJA FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE
EJECTING EASTWARD ON FRIDAY. THIS WILL BRING A DRY NORTHEAST FLOW
OVER THE AREA THAT WILL LAST FOR A FEW DAYS RESULTING IN CLEAR
AND WARMER TEMPERATURES.

THE FLOW BECOMES MORE ONSHORE BY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AND TEMPERATURES
WILL COOL OFF. LONG RANGE MODELS IN AGREEMENT IN BRINGING A STRONG
UPPER TROUGH INTO THE WEST COAST MONDAY WHICH WILL BRING A CHANCE OF
RAIN TO THE ENTIRE DISTRICT. THE MODELS HAVE BEEN INDICATING THIS FOR
THE PAST FEW DAYS SO CONFIDENCE IS GROWING THAT WE WILL GET SOME RAIN
ON MONDAY AND POSSIBLY SOME RESIDUAL SHOWERS ON TUESDAY. THIS TROUGH
WILL BE PROGRESSIVE AND PRECIP WILL END RAPIDLY AFTER TUESDAY.
ANOTHER TROUGH WILL APPROACH THE WEST COAST THURSDAY OR FRIDAY BUT
IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL WHAT AFFECT IT WILL HAVE ON OUR DISTRICT.

Nukin' north wind all day in the valley. Shrivel city.

Did any of that wind hit the beaches, or did it all get pushed offshore?
