Rich, it's not happening.

Sherman's probably going to be dead all weekend. This is not normal weather for May. It's frickin' humid right now.

All the wind is coming into the bay and heading south instead of up into the Delta.

Road trip to 3rd av.

3:00 pm

SFO = 29.91

Sac. = 29.83

OK, now here is an example of exceptions to the rule..
.08 So why isn't it blowing?
This should be a sign that Rio should be blowing, but I don't think it is...

I'm still going to Sherman Sat. Hope it blows, if it doesn't it will suck.

Gradient wind is one thing but for the thermal wind to really kick in the tempurature differential between San Francisco and Sacramento needs to be at least fifteen degrees.
Twenty degrees difference with a marine layer outside and Rio will rock!

FYI: I've sailed in 50 kt winds with pea soup fog.. since the fog occurs because of the matching of tempurature to dew point - which can happen even within a steep gradient.

Though i would normally agree with the temp. diff. "thing"
After living in Sacramento for 12 years, I feel (more than not) a cooking day in Sac. (105 +) will more likely kill the wind (even if there is a 30 degree diff from SF.

Sherman was VERY nice yesterday, guys well powered on 12s, gals on 10's. It just took a bit of time for the wind to reach it.......patience you infadels....(non believers).

You infadels need to get out there and play - push your self away from the computer ;-)

Now go get some, as it's going to be good EVERYWHERE today.

Here are a couple of sites to help with visualizing gradient wind.

http://virga.sfsu.edu/gif/sathts_pac_snd_00.gif
(Check out the 300mb and 500mb views too)
http://magicseaweed.com/California-Nort ... essure/in/
Shows a nice animation of the gradient change over time.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/mwmap. ... tr&limit=1
Easy reference for actual temperatures.

For forecast temps you can make a list you "my yahoo" for example..

And Z we are loading the car!

Dewey, we need to find someplace IN fairfield to kite. It's windier there than at Sherman today. You know anyone with a swimming pool?

I'm curious what time folks got out at Sherman yesterday -- 7 pm?

$3.50/gal gas makes me a whole lot less excited about driving an hour each way and getting skunked.

Today might be the last day of good wind for a while most places, so I'm going down there anyway. Bringing the big kite, though. :|
