Any time I'm riding a 10 at Alameda you know its blowing!
What I'm wondering is why did all the bow kites that have range to thirty all go in and leave me by my lonesome....?

Holy Shit! Did you see pt. isabelle? Gusted to 155mph according to ikitesurf! Better rig your .01 meter kite.

Bob...

Good question, as this did change my past belief that I could hold down 30 on my bow. Its not that it doesnt depower, it is just uncomfortable for most. Personally my biggest discomfort with the 2 bows I have had in gusty winds is that I feel like when I ride them fully depowered, they are more prone to that point of inversion. They bounce alot in the air. With all the swells and constant depowering/powering it doesnt seem as stable as a c kite does. I have never inverted one still to this day but I do fear it will happen in yesterday's type of weather if at all. So my new range for my 12 bow would be 8-25, no longer 30.

Good Question Bob, I was out at the same time on the inside with
my 9m white Rhino, seemed like at about 5:30 when the
wind started getting good, all the bows disappeared!.EPIC ALAMEDA!!!!

Although I think the bow is good in the upper ranges ( I have had a 12m bow out over 35mph)... I appreciate their low end much much more than their high end... smaller bows in high wind are still way more fun than a 12m at the limit of depower... I weigh 30% more than yuri and I was on a 10 and well powered... plus in the lulls, I was still charging upwind....

I think you can physically take a 12m bow out over 30kts... but it is not reccomended, fun, or all that safe.... If you want a 1 kite quiver, get a 10m and kite from 12 - 32mph... or a 10 and go from 8 - 28mph

Andy, I was thinking of getting a smaller kite for storm days. Any rec.? Since my 12 is good for most days I was thining of just getting a 7 or 9 fuel, since they are relatively inexpensive now. The other option is to get a 8 meter bow. Dave Civ. came in on his 8, I dont think he was overpowered but he was juiced on that little thing. I ended up borrowing Jenny's 8 meter wind wing and was definately under powered until the big gusts hit me. Its so hard to tell because every kite is so damn different. My 2003 north rhino was by far the worst of any I have flown. It had around 6-8" of bar travel, and was on or off, no inbetween. I was being lofted on the beach on that 8 when I went out on my 12 and was totally comforatble. yet yesterday, my 12 was clearly too much for me. At least to do anything other than park it overhead and try and go down wind!

So was the pt. isabelle meter broken or what? What makes it spike to 155mph?

LGM looked really happy on his 8m... I have an 8m too for the 25-40mph days... super fun kite.... I can ride the 8m down to 17mph on my small board and still go upwind, but below that I am going downwind...

With your 12m, an 8 would complete your quiver and allow highwind stability...

You could also go with a small fuel or other C kite, but you won't get the wide range of a bow.... You are welcome to try my 8m or Dave's 8m... or my new 14m for that matter...

Andy
