How do I sign up for 3rd ave freestyle camp? I have no problem learning wakestyle but primarily want to try and learn some non-boosted hooked in skim style tricks ... you know, make like J Money and walk on water and stuff like that

I dont get why so many THINK they need SPECIAL TRAINING!
I LEARN BY ATTEMPTING what MY MIND thinks up with or watching others attempt or complete THEIR BAG OF TRICKS and doing MY OWN SPIN on what I see.

Is it EVERYONE wants to FIT INTO some NICE LITTLE CUBE, Or be JUDGED AS CORRECT or THEY ARE WRONG??

What happen to the good old CRASH AND BURN, dust yourself off and SIMPLY TRY AGAIN approach to life-

People LIMITE THEIR CREATIVITY by SIMPLY COPYING what others do, which I think of as CHEATING on some level-

Sure it's GREAT to GET some TRAINING to LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS but why not DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE-

This country and SPORT was FOUNDED ON THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX,

Enjoy-
Greg

Well said Greg and I agree but also conjecture that from a progression standpoint you can get farther faster by learning from people who have walked the path so you can use their experience and cut down on some of that burn & learn time!! :]

As I prepare for Rio 2016 in the 3 contestable disciplines time is not on my side to do an entirely experimental learning approach

Noun a radio is a great idea--I usually carry a small pack with a radio in water bag, whistle, and a little waterproof strobe (for night swimming.. holy $#@! let's hope I never have to use that right?).

This is the radio I have.. at the time I got it--it was one of the most compact out there: http://www.icomamerica.com/en/products/ ... fault.aspx

They've since come out with an even smaller one!

Great to hear you plan on having a radio out there it's good to see more people with them out on the water from a response perspective. Biggest threat at Crissy is breakdowns b/c that spot is so dynamic it's almost as though it's alive.

I agree with you greg, but I also agree with aloha:
I think those camps are great to learn the basics quickly: Pop out of the water without using the boost of the kite, front and back roll, un-hooking, handle pass, etc.
But then once you understand how to do those basics: try your own stuff and crash!

i don't think you need a camp. but you do need friends who will push you.

Sometimes, it's hard to tell what you're doing wrong, and having someone there to see it helps. Sometimes, trying a trick is downright scary, and having someone there to see you crash helps you go for it.

the other day, i was working on shifty2wrapped. and ramsey said my shifty's were crap. he took some video, and he was right. they were crap. without his input, i never would have known. now I can try to do less crappy shifty's.

kiteboarding is just like any sport. people have coaches, teams, trainers for a reason. find a friend who wants to push it and you'll improve a lot faster.

you're welcome to come and ride with us at 3rd ave. all we ask is that you crash a lot. if you're not crashing at least once a tack, you're not trying hard enough.

Hi adam!
I was just responding to greg.
I'm not planning on attending any camp. From what I saw at 3rd ave, there are plenty of nice people with awesome skills ready to make new friends and help people like me.
Ramsey was awesome on tuesday: explaining to me on land, cheering me up in the water and showing me what to do. =D>
Plus it's fun to watch him throwing crazy tricks and crash too
I'm definitely thinking about getting boots though: more time trying tricks without having to think about recovering your board.
Any input on boots?

long live crash and burn!!

Savor the learning, newness in your progression.
you will remember these times,as i know i did,sometimes...i wish i could go back.
as times goes by,i at least, get spoiled, maybe jaded even.
now,i just want to be powered on a 9M,or less.
several months ago,i went to alameda for a storm-ish sess, there were some newbies
fired up,rigging 12-14's,and a couple guys out,totally just mowing the lawn,ho-hum
looked pretty marginal,up and down, and a little drizzle at times.
i watched for a while,a long while,honestly.
and never rigged up.
later that night i got mad at myself, why did'nt i go out?
did i miss an epic session,no,but i realized i lost some of that hunger in a way.
savor it.
vive le kiteboarding!!

ha! I've been snowboarding for almost 2 decades and I'm still not bored with it!
I can already tell it's gonna take a while to get me bored from kiteboarding.

I've been snowboarding for 20 years also, and since I learned to kiteboard in 2005 I have only been downhill snowboarding 4 times. I use to get 30-40 days a year. This year I went to Tahoe twice and never even rode, did some snowkiting at Mt. Rose Meadows though!!

The 86$ lift ticket is unreal, and the beer is more expensive than the Giants game. Now i only go if its some super pow pow powder and a half priced ticket. Only thing thats better about snowboarding are the snowbunnies, few and far between in kiting but they are out there. O:)
