most of the time "secret" spots are just not that good. either marginal wind, dirty water, difficult access, sketchy launch, etc......

I've got a few "secret" spots as well that i would be glad to share with everyone because I know most people aren't going to go to the trouble of actually kiting there regularly.

I saw someone use "Pond # x" to refer to a pond near Sunnyvale once. Where are these numbers coming from? When I look on maps I just see unlabeled square ponds.

I picked up that number from talking to a Fish and Game wildlife biologist, in an attempt to open access to the pond for kiters.

It must be Gusty?!? I've heard about the nice butter......

I know some secret spots as well, but not for the entire community! Sorry, sometimes a secret is a secret.

Yea! I have some secrets about your mom, too. Sorry though I'm not sharing.

If they are secrets about YOUR mom then they are not secret, everybody already knows where to find her. Hanging out at Alameda with the kooks! ROTFLMFAO!!

we fly huge colorful kite 100 feet in the sky,but sshush it's a secret...
so f-ing stupid.

what's really sad is dozens of epic-windy days go by at these "secret" spots...
and NO-ONE is kiting them.....
- valuable info could be gathered, instead lost.

meanwhile we complain about crowded launches, and threatened access.

I think most of see wind and a little bit of water and have the same exact thought, "I could hit that".

Regarding the napa site: knee deep water & 12M kites, sounds like a great beginner spot ;-) If you crash, just stand up and relaunch. I drive through Carneros from time to time for the wine, maybe I'll bring my gear next time.

I got some great woohoos from the wakeboarders ;-) Winds were light, little chance to stay upwind but it's now checked off my list of stuff to do.

I *love* the boat-in camp sites on this lake. Just wonderful. I wouldn't drive here to kite, but if you're already camping w/family and can get in a session, why not?

Any notes on where you launched from? I'm heading there camping this weekend and would love to get a session in if the wind-gods allow.

Hi Buckidge:

I don't think Lake Sonoma gets consistent thermal wind strong enough to kite, it has to be one of those days where all of NorCal is windy. I launched on the main lake. I had my boat so just beached the boat on a point, pumped up and went. Luckily my wife was there to launch me, otherwise, you'll have to toss your kite in the water and drift/self launch because the shore is too hard & rocky to drag your kite on.

Depending on the year, the water can still be chilly on Memorial Day.

Sounds like a generally bad idea. Thanks for the heads up.
