Visiting Bay area for 3 weeks, any kiteboarding advice?

Post by mark o » Fri Oct 20, 2006 8:21 am

Hi

I'm visiting the the East Bay area (San Ramon) for the next three weeks and am hoping to get some kiteboarding done. Having no experiance of the area are there any beach recommendations for a relative beginner? Is a wetsuit required (summer or winter), boots etc?

Are the local kiters a friendly bunch?

Thanks,
Mark

This is the end of the season. So getting wind is really luck at this point.
For the most part it will be only on the coast or Crissy(SF side of Golden Gate Bridge).
If you are here with non-kiters you might not get any kiting in at all.
The locals are friendly but not sure the conditions will be for a beginner.

Wetsuit all year long at the above locations and the whole Bay Area during Fall/ Winter.

As stated, this time of the year is not very good for beginners. Advanced riders have many more options.

A much better bet is renting a surf board and going surfing. Bolinas, Stinson, Ocean Beach all good locations. You will need a 4/3 wetsuit.

Best, Zeev.

Been meaning to ask all year to al-kite-a: How do you know Osama don't kite? Maybe he is haning in Egypt, where no one is looking for him, throwing down some powered KGBs?
