Kiteboarding Research Survey

Post by Kevin » Sun Sep 10, 2006 3:49 pm

Hi my name is Kevin, and as part of my doctoral studies at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions I am investigating participation levels in kiteboarding and events that lead to the occurrence of injuries in kiteboarding.

I have developed an on-line survey that is 100% anonymous and confidential.
Would you mind filling out the survey?

You can enter the survey even if you have not had any kiteboarding injury. I need 281 subjects to have a valid study. I have included the Sign-Up form which can be accessed through;

http://www.stats-consult.com/survey-signup.html

The information from the survey is going to be vitally important for kiteboarders considering risk management issues, orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation specialists in understanding the unique causes of injury found within the sport of kiteboarding.

Once you have read the consent information and sent it back to us, the software will send you out the survey which should take about 3-4 minutes to fill in.

Thanks for participating.

Aloha Kevin

Hi Greg

Yes, I live on Oahu, kite and surf many South/East and North Shore spots. Greg have a look a the Florida Kiteboading Assn posts by Rick Issoi for some verification of my studies purpose.

Research response

I appreciate your concerns

If you invested a bit of time looking at the school's website I attend (www.rmuohp.edu), maybe even call and speak to the registar, or the Institutional Review Board member listed on the consent form then you would see that your concerns are totally ill-founded!
Maybe even take the time to look at similar responses to your concerns that have been posted on the Florida Kiteboarding Assn website.

It is not my intent to enter a war of words with anyone, my primary objective is to get info on sports injuries in order to complete my doctorate.

I read some opinion that this is an insurance survey to access the risk of different sports. As we know risk translates to premium increase. From the links provided it actually does make sense.

Universities do research and surveys for private industry, that's nothing new.

Response to Survey

Thanks for taking the time to check up on the links regarding the Uni I attend and I assure you this institution and myself are not in the situation to jeopodize our academic integrity.

I would ask you to check in with the moderaters at the Oahu Kiteboarding Assn. Erik is the guy you may have seen who got lofted up at the Mokes some 250 feet then crashed into the car park, he will certainly verify that I am who I claim to be, that I am a fellow kiteboarder, that I am not a scammer, that I treat injured kiteboarders with the intention of getting them back on the water and staying there, and that no insurance companies will even get a sniff of the information.

There is little more that I can to do to make people believe this is a legimate academic project. I hope that other readers that are following this thread check out everything I have stated so that they feel comfortable in undertaking the survey if they want to be involved.

Thanks to the moderaters of this forum for allowing this conversation to take place.
