Anyone know if 3rd Ave will be closed to casual kiters due to the event? If
so, during what times?
Thanks.

Let me be the first to say that any wind at all in the Delta this weekend would be welcome.
But "Another Rio weekend"? The wind pretty much sucked last weekend. If it's 110 in Sacto (forecast) it's not gonna blow in the Delta.
Sometimes I think Ikite guys need to check the valley forecast every once in a while. The weather here does affect what the wind does...
Maybe Sunday.

Go easy
Hello Bulldog,
Go easy there my friend.
Last weekend was incredibly good at the delta. Not sure where you were...On sat, all my friends were having a blast on 13/14/16m kites and the water was warm flat and shallow. Everyone was having a blast!!! I was not able to kite due to injury, but had a blast as it was really nice beach weather (even my 1 year old son was having a great time in the water as it was warm and friendly). Personally, I love this type of weather at the delta as it keeps the crowds low and you can learn a lot of new moves due to low price you pay for making mistakes in kite/body position.
Sunday was solid 12m all day, backed off a bit in the evening.....
I'll take that bet with you Bulldog - I predict great wind on the river all weekend.
I'm thinking all the heat in the valley has you a bit upset - I understand, I don't like when it gets too hot....
Get some, Z.

Great, we have a heated discussion (no pun intended)
Though it's not blowing at rio yet, they are calling for Gale force gusts North of the Bay Bridge !!!
It will be a hard call IMHO as it is expected to hit 107 today and 108 tomorrow in Sacramento. That is usuially hot enough to kill the wind.
Fairfield is forcasted to be only 102 today with it cooling down to 101 on Sat. This is good news to me as their might be enough temp. diff. to cause good pressure diff.
With that said I think I will bring the whole family down and bank on it blowing in the afternoons.
Check out the fog loop, lot's of it : http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/satellite/index.php?wfo=sto
Click on the 1km visable loop.
As far as the wind last weekend, Sunday, I was on an 11m Sonic from 9:30 am till 2pm !!! What a great Father's Day...
SAN FRANCISCO SAN PABLO SUISUN BAY AND THE WEST DELTA- 250 AM PDT FRI JUN 23 2006 ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING... .TODAY...W TO SW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT WITH OCCASIONAL GALE FORCE GUSTS OF 35 KT...MAINLY NORTH OF THE BAY BRIDGE. PATCHY DENSE FOG. .TONIGHT THROUGH SUN...W TO SW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT...INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. AREAS OF NIGHT AND MORNING FOG AND DRIZZLE. .MON AND TUE...W TO SW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT...INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. PATCHY NIGHT AND MORNING FOG.

Z, Bulldog is me Pablito. Can't seem to make my password work. I'm trying my usual tactic of overt pessimism in the hope of being wrong and happy when the winds come up.
Let me rephrase my description of last week: Friday and Sunday afternoons were light and wierd (very SW on Sunday after you left). I heard all about Saturday.
And you are right on target that my brain is cooking here in Hell, CA (aka the Central Valley). But Rich and I know that too much heat here can ruin the wind at Sherman. And the guys at NWS Sacto, who have no "wind related products" selling on their website (cough, cough), aren't forecasting much air movement through the Delta this weekend. LET'S HOPE THEY ARE WRONG!
P.S. -- sorry to hear about your fingers. I had a little run in with a pulley belt once that taught me a nasty lesson. I guess you'll just have to hang out at Sherman and dispense useful advice all summer...
